In Rūta Radevičė’s “You Never Know,” a portrait is covered by abstract brushstrokes, as if concealing something too deep to be shown directly. Layers of colour obscure the glasses and make the face impossible to read completely — the gaze is calm yet unreachable, inviting us to wonder what lies behind it.
The artist paints spontaneously, without advance plans, allowing the emotion of the moment to guide the brush. As a result, every stroke feels unique, born in the here and now. “You Never Know” reminds us that we can never fully know another person — beneath a calm expression there is always more than we can see at first glance.
